Will all e-mail being sent or received from ND accounts be checked, scanned, or reviewed for compliance with current security guidelines? What about old e-mail messages being stored on our computers?

Currently, the University only scans the content of inbound or outbound e-mail for the purposes of virus/spam filtering, not for sensitive data such as Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, and so on. If you have old e-mail stored that may contain sensitive information, you should follow the same process as you would for other forms of sensitive data: determine whether you need to retain it for University business purposes and, if you do, store it in a secure location and/or encrypt it.
