Who can help identify “real” sensitive numbers found when running the Sensitive Number Finder?
Ultimately, you know your files and documents better than anyone else does. Some examples of files on your system that are more likely to contain social security or credit card numbers include performance reviews, tax forms, employment records, student grade lists, student papers, expense reimbursement forms, resumes and curriculum vitae, electronic receipts, stored web browser data, Pro Card information, personal budget information or bill paying information. You can also sort files by rank to help identify which ones are most likely to contain real sensitive numbers.
However, YOU will have to review the scan results to determine if a pattern match actually IS a sensitive number. The tool can only search for NUMBER PATTERNS that look like social security numbers and credit card numbers.
The Sensitive Number Finder section of this web site also provides advice and a tutorial on running the Sensitive Number Finder and analyzing the results. If you have additional questions, please contact your departmental IT support or the OIT Help Desk at 631-8111.
