What is a VPN?

The University’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) permits remote systems to access the Notre Dame network as if they were physically located on the ND campus network. We recommend using the VPNwhenever you are connecting to the ND network from off-campus and accessing University information.

Like registered and sealed mail, a VPN delivers your network traffic to campus in an encrypted "tunnel." By requiring you to supply your password when connecting, the VPN also provides OIT servers with an extra assurance that the person connecting to it is a member of the ND community.

For further details on how to use the VPN gateway, please visit the “Connect Securely from Off-Campus” section of the SecureND website.
